On the first day of this year, I asserted a desire to shake up my wardrobe and create a lovingly-curated set of beautiful clothes in blog post form. Another major step for this challenge I spontaneously created for myself right before the new year was to count EVERYTHING I own and see the numbers in black and white. So, here they are:
| Shoes | 39 | Coats & Jackets | 32 |
| Scarves | 21 | Tank Tops | 21 |
| Skirts | 29 | Dresses | 37 |
| Pants | 12 | Vests | 3 |
| Shirts | 48 | Belts | 26 |
| Cardigans & Sweaters | 24 | Misc. | 2 |
Basically, this challenge is begun with 294 pieces in my closet that are not all equal partners in my dressing endeavor. After losing weight at the end of high school and beginning of college, I had to rebuild a wardrobe almost from scratch (but that 50+ pounds has stayed off for four years and counting). And then I fell in love with thrifting and started buying things I might wear because, well, it barely costs anything to try out.
This is no longer about money. It is about space and sanity and the minimalist I am at heart. And so I am going to methodically work through my closet, wearing every piece in turn until I have given away, donated, or worn everything in the closet. And we'll just see how long it takes that unwieldy list of 294 pieces to pare down to a manageable, glorious smaller number.
1. Every day I must wear at LEAST one item from my closet not worn since the start. This continues until my entire closet has been donned or donated away.
2. If I struggle to style an item or find myself wishing I had three new pieces to make it work then it does not belong in my closet.
3. Anything ill-fitting or damaged beyond repair must go.
4. Duplicates are space-wasters. One must be selected over the other.
Be sure to keep up on the challenge because there will be several giveaways--I've got some amazing pieces I can't just give to Goodwill but would love to give to one of you!
